Viennese action grand, which has hammers mounted in reverse. These are found on grands before about 1900 and are best avoided unless you have a technician familiar with them.

Comments

Austrian pianos of high quality. Many Bosendorfers are used in concert venues; they make two grand pianos with extra bass notes: 92 and 97. Pre-1900 grands usually have Viennese actions which are also found in some other makes of Austrian pianos. They have a unique style and are not all-round pianos for study. The most common upright is the 130 cm tall, of very high quality with a reponsive action and rich tone. (updated 2026)
